*It's a wonderful warm day in May and Ruka is sat outside, under a tree, on either the Academy Island or in the park in Domino City. She looks to be hard at work though, as she mulls over some books she has with her, occasionally jotting down notes in a notebook. On closer inspection, the books appear to be theories on time travel, as well as history books.
Feel free to bother her about this or something completely different!*

Is the rare occurrence why you are researching into this?
no subject
Yes, it is.

... I hold a rather strong interest in time travel, myself. Which is why I find it interesting that someone else shares any interest at all.
It can be a rather convoluted subject matter, after all.

It is in order to avoid the paradox of one's own existence. If one goes into the past, and then changes too much to the world, they risk their own existence occurring in the future. That is why, instead, the future that an individual might originate from fractures off from the timeline that was created as a result of actions.
However, the idea that one might have been sent back to a different past, than their own... *he seems a bit contemplative on that*

So... it IS possible for a timeline to branch off and become a different timeline if things are messed with too much?
*She seems a little unsettled with that*

Sometimes, it is unavoidable. It is best to try to minimize the changes done by one's presence, or to plan such interference carefully.

...I don't think things could ever of been planned carefully...

If something like that happened... I assume the timeline the person came from would be safe, right? Nothing would happen to it?

However, there are... Rare cases, where if a change is too great and too immediate, time will... "Break", for it, and then reconstruct into the changed future.
no subject
...that can happen...?

But as I stated, it tends to be rare... and if someone with the ability to travel through time in the first place is aware of what would have caused the rift, stopping that from happening usually tends to create a reversal effect.
But... As I stated, it is rare.

It is difficult to really say, as it is still a very rare occurrence. There is no absolute when it comes to it. Sometimes, anything connected to it will vanish as well. Sometimes, they might still linger, regardless of it.
Unless if one has the ability to freely move through time at such precision, it is hard to say if a future has vanished or not. ... Especially when you consider your previous statement of being in an alternate past.

I see... maybe I could work it out somehow though... maybe...
*She looks back up at Sadame*
Thank you. For sharing what you know.

... You're welcome. I apologize that my information was not inclusive enough, for what you wish to know.

... I apologize if I interrupted you from figuring them out before, however.
