voicesofspirits: (☆ Oh! Hi There! ☆)
I wonder why I only ever remember to update this journal when my birthday comes around.
I guess I'm really more of a reader than a writer to be honest and I get absorbed into my work so much that I never seem to have the time to write here.

I've spent my 21st just doing what I usually do, but that doesn't really bother me.

I really haven't updated my journal here since my last birthday? I really should use this more...
I turned 20 yesterday. I mostly just had a relaxing day, nothing much to write about there, really, but it's nice to have a day off and just relax now and then.
Journal Post

Well, I'm officially 19 today.
It's strange to think that in one more year I'll be completely out of my teens.

*It's Ruka's 19th birthday and she had the day off work for it, so anyone can meet up with her in the park for birthday wishes and present giving!*

It's amazing that we're already in June. This year is going really fast. It's my 19th birthday on the 20th of this month.

Other than that, I've been taking things one day at a time. Somedays it's a little hard, but having Valerifawn here with me has really helped. It's nice to have some extra company and she's very attached to me. She even sleeps on the end of my bed most nights.
This week has been very difficult. It's been a lot to take in. Only now am I feeling like I can somewhat write about it here.
... it's just hard to believe that I'll probably never get to see any of them again.
But things needed to be fixed. They needed to be balanced. If it hadn't, the result of it would of been a lot worse... and not just for me.
I know they'll be fine... and a part of me is there with them.

...I guess at least... I don't have to worry about such an uncertain future anymore...

*Ruka can be found sitting on a bench in the park. She is looking down at a card in her hand, completely lost in thought. Occasionally, she looks up and looks at her arm where her signer mark used to be with a forlorn look on her face.
It looks like she needs some company.*

Things have been so busy with the merge of the Spirit Foundation and the Arcadia Movement, but things seem to be going well. The majority of the work is on schedule and should be completed before the holidays, then the official opening of SAI will be after the new year. I'm really excited about this new venture and I know that it'll mean a lot to the people of the city.

Since most things will be set up, I seem to have a little spare time over the holidays and I'm wondering how to spend it.

Well, it seems everything is set up. I should get my result from my final theory paper tomorrow, but I'm positive there will be no issues with it.
Next week will be a whole new step for me. It's kind of scary, but something I feel I need to do, in order to help myself grow.

*As Ruka eats dinner with Juudai and Asuka one night in Sakana's communal kitchen, she looks up at them and takes a deep breath.*

Juudai. Asuka-san.
About what I wanted to talk to you about...
voicesofspirits: (☆ Confident Smile ☆)
Today I talked to the person at the college who is over-seeing the written work I have to do for my duel spirit apprenticeship in order to get the result on my latest written piece and they told me that I only really have to write one more piece to have covered everything. It can be on any topic I like in regards to spirits and I have until the 19th of September to write and submit it, then I should get the result of it by the 30th.
As long as it passes, I will of passed the entire written part of the course. I've already covered everything I needed too for the practical part of the apprenticeship.

They also commented that they have really enjoyed reading my research papers and that they had a lot of good ideas. They said I should think about writing articles, but I told them I already have written a few articles for the Spirit Foundation for magazines and newspapers. Juudai leaves that kind of stuff up to me as he says I'm "better with words" than he is.

Feels kind of weird that I'm so close to finishing this.
Happy 18th birthday, Rua.
I hope where ever you are and whatever you're doing, you have a fun day today.

So, I guess if you saw Juudai's update, you'll know why neither of us have been around much as of late.

Although I'm still not 100% and may not be for another few weeks, I'm getting better each day, which is a relief. The whole ordeal was scary and unexpected, but I am so grateful to both Juudai and Asuka, who took turns to stay at my bedside while I was in the hospital, despite still feeling ill themselves, just so I wouldn't be alone there.
I remember when I woke up and saw them both there and... it just made me feel very relieved to see familiar faces, despite how confused I was at the time over everything else. I didn't remember what had happened or where I even was, but they were there, so I knew I was okay.

The hospital did some tests and talked to me a lot. After the tests came back and I told them my basic medical history, like how unwell and fragile I was as a child, they said that I have a slightly more weaker immune system than someone my age should have. It's not to the point where it's too worrying, and they think I was just really unlucky this time due to the strength of the virus I got, but they suggested that I should at least get a flu vaccine each year now as a precaution. Also that I should look into taking extra vitamins to try and give my immune system an extra boost.
As long as I take precautions like that, I should be fine.

I'm looking forward to when I can finally do more than sit around the apartment though. Some maybe glad of getting to rest so much, but it's a little boring.
...can't believe it's already been a year.
I'm really honoured that Juudai has trusted me enough to send me out on something for the Spirit Foundation on my own this weekend. I've been out on things like this for the Spirit Foundation before, but it's always been with either Juudai or Saiga-san.

The incident sounds quite small so it shouldn't be much of a problem to deal with, so I'm sure I'll be fine. I still feel a little nervous though.
A week ago I decided to enquire about college courses on duel spirits at the Duel College in the city and after I mentioned the work I did with the Spirit Foundation, the college told me that, considering what line of work I'm aiming for, more "in-the-field" experience would be better, especially since some of the classwork is mostly just facts and some guess work, as we don't know everything about duel spirits, or the 12 dimensions. In fact, we know very little.
They said they'd be happy to support a full apprenticeship for me while working at the Spirit Foundation, which would cover pretty much everything they could teach, if not more. The only extra stuff I would need to do, is do my own research projects and submit them to the college when needed.

I got confirmation back from the college today that all the paperwork is fine and that they will support me as an apprentice at the Spirit Foundation from October. It's only for a year, as that's how long the course would of been but... Juudai told me that once I pass the apprenticeship, I have a guaranteed full-time job at the foundation anyway, as a researcher.

I also talked to the principal of the Duel Academy about possibly basing some of my research projects on the island, as it, as well as Domino City, have strong links to the spirit world. He agreed that I can do that if I wish to, which is great.
But also... I thought that being on the island at least for a few days a week or so means that I can keep in contact with Shinji and Yuma. Plus it would be a shame if our club ended just because myself and Shinoko graduated.

I don't know what Shinoko plans to do after graduating, I'll have to talk to her about it, but I definitely want to keep the club running.
I just realized that in a few months, I'll be graduating. It's strange that it's come along so quickly. I'm not really too worried over the summer exams that will be coming up, the final ones I'll be taking at the academy, but I've been thinking a lot about what I should do after... as now's the time to really make a decision on it.

I know what I'd like to do, I have an aim, but... I'm not sure if I should go for that straight away or if maybe if it would be best to find a way to support myself a little better first. Juudai and Asuka are so amazing for giving me a place to live, they've been nothing but supportive and caring, but I worry about out-staying my welcome... so I wonder if trying to save up for my own place first would be the right choice...
I'm quite excited that I'll be helping Shinoko to run her new club. I think it has the potential to be great and we could discover a lot of stuff.
I'd been wanting to join a club for a while at the academy too, but all the others weren't really that much suited to me. I wouldn't be all that good in sports clubs.

So far there is me and her as confirmed, with two other possible members. We just need a 5th member to officially become a club. I hope we can find one soon.
Things at school have been rather calm since I went back. Most of the people who had been giving me problems seem to be leaving me alone, but to be honest, they don't really make much acknowledgement of me either. The only person at school I really talk to is Shinji. I did try and make another friend when I first went back but... that didn't go so well...

...kind of related, but I realized recently that out of the signers from this timeline, the only one I know is Isabel. I'm either just familiar with, or don't know, the others. I guess it doesn't really matter... I'm not really supposed to be part of their group and it's probably not my place to get involved with their matters either, but I still feel a little concern over things, like how at least three of the dragons have changed signers over time. I didn't even know they could do that.

I wonder if things are okay for that Ancient Fairy Dragon...
